December 7th NC Lottery Winner Chooses Lump Sum Payout to Buy a Home
Mr. Hege visited the NC Lottery headquarters on Friday, and he had a choice to make. He could either receive the winnings as an annuity payment of $50,000 over 20 years, or he could take a lump sum with heavy tax consequences. He chose the lump sum of $600,000 and after taxes took home over $426,000. Mr. Hege also said he plans to buy a home with his winnings.

Lottery players who scan their tickets into their accounts are automatically entered into the second-chance drawings. The winners are then notified via phone or email from by the North Carolina Lottery. Hege was the last of five winners of the Colossal Cash second-chance drawing.
